I have admired Koi fishes for a very long time to the point where recently I want to get a half sleeve tattoo with a koi fish swimming up a waterfall! But anyways in randomness a thought ran through my head to research what the koi fish really stands for for I feel that its symbol have been lost because it is aesthetically pleasing. In Japan it stands for “good fortune or luck and it is also known for perseverance of adversity and strength of purpose;Symbolic in Buddhism is to represent courage. Today the fish are considered to be symbolic of advancement materially and spiritually.”. (www.koi-pond-guide.com)
There are other legends in Japan that have Koi fish in them but my favorite of them all is the legend that if a koi fish succeeded in climbing the falls at a point called Dragon Gate on the Yellow River, it would be transformed into a dragon.
Another reason why I love the koi fish is besides the fact that they are so beautiful and graceful is that they are also known to have silent power because they are known “for swimming upstream no matter what the conditions are. These fish are even said to swim up waterfalls. This is viewed as an absolute show of power because they will continue to swim upstream as if on a mission. They cannot be distracted or deterred by anything.Koi’s swimming downstream are considered bad luck.”(www.koi-pond-guide.com)
These are the reasons why I love the koi fish so much. I love that they are known to swim upstream even up waterfalls and swim as if they are on a mission! And once they have set their minds onto their mission nothing can distract them! Looking at koi fish amazes me and inspires me to have the same beautiful elegance and silent power as the koi. To set my mind on something and persevere and have strength to get through the many obstacles and keep focused that nothing will bring me down or distract me!
